NIGHTSPOTS are soon saying ‘no’ to cigarettes, with clubs like Zouk leading the way by going smoke-free indoors from July 1. ‘There will be no more second-hand smoke for non-smokers and they’ll be able to leave the club and not smell like cigarettes,’ said Zouk’s spokesman Tracy Phillips.

‘Hopefully this will encourage more of them to come out and club.’

Zouk will be one of the 89 entertainment outlets who will be building smoking rooms, or designating outdoor smoking corners, from June 6.

About 300 outlets will not build smoking rooms or set aside smoking areas, to go ‘entirely smoke-free’, when restrictions on smoking are extended to entertainment outlets from July 1, said the National Environment Agency (NEA).

The NEA said there was no cut-off date for outlets to cater to their smoking clients as they could decide to build smoking rooms any time after July 1.
